Bike Fit
WA SportsMed Physiotherapy offers a unique and comprehensive service for Cyclists, Triathletes and Mountain Bikers of all ages and abilities. Riders can benefit from the expertise of a Physiotherapist with hands on 'bike' experience, in both the assessment of bike positioning and the riders biomechanics.
Having commenced Bike fitting in 2000, Sports Physiotherapist Leon Vogels has a wealth of bike fitting experience including:
- Mentorship under the watchful eye of then Australian Institute of Sport Biomechanist Brian MacLean
- Previously completing the Retul training course
- Being Physiotherapist for Professional teams (Such as Davitamon-Lotto, now Jumbo-Visma)
- Being current preferred provider for WAIS Cycling.
Our bike fitting Physiotherapists are able to relate to real life bike issues including parts, sizing/pricing, athlete goals and the athlete 'psyche.'
Bike fitting is always a combination of rider measurement, flexibility and strength and this interaction with the five contact points on the bicycle. A blended approach where performance and comfort are goals and the body is taken into consideration is used. Therefore WA SportsMed Bike Set Up can help a rider get the most out of their body, allowing them to be more efficient and powerful on the bike, while still considering each individual's flexibility and strength limits.
*Please note: Leon is happy to discuss, where appropriate, queries relating to bike set ups and recommendations outside of appointments. However, due to increasing time spent on these, a small fee will now apply - $20 per 10 minute block.
What is included?
The Bike Set Up and Biomechanical Assessment involves a two hour consult which includes:
- Measurement of flexibility
- Video assessment of position
- Measurement of the bicycle, and
- Measurement of the rider fit to the bicycle
An electronic assessment of position and required changes will be supplied.
If necessary a follow-up visit for tasks to increase flexibility, control and strength can be organised.
If fine tuning is required it can be done at a reduced rate within two months of the initial fit.
